The particular interest of this work lies on the possible contribution of bentonite colloids to RN transport. The first parameter necessary to assess the colloid-mediated transport is the quantification of the bentonite colloid source term. Secondly, it is necessary to define if colloids remain stable in the geochemical conditions of the medium.

Working as an active barrier for structures under either continuous or intermittent hydrostatic pressure, WATERSTOP-RX® substantially reduces the possibility for leaks—its active volcanic bentonite component absorbs up to 15x its volume in water, expanding to seal cracks using the very pressure of the water itself to fill and block any gaps.
The XRD (D8 Advance, Brüker) patterns of the original Gyeongju bentonite and the prepared bentonite colloids are shown in Fig. 1.From the XRD result for the bentonite colloid at a normal condition (see BC-NR pattern in Fig. 1 b), it was observed that the bentonite colloids only consisted of montmorillonite without any other minerals. …
The co-volume fraction is defined as (11) ϕ cov = 2 3 (D p + 2 m κ-1) 3 D p 2 δ p ϕ with the Debye length κ −1 given by (12) κ-1 = ε 0 ε RT 2 IF 2 where I is the ion strength. A value of m = 1 is used for m in Eq. (20). Fig. 1 shows the relative viscosity η / η w as a function of the smectite volume fraction and the sodium concentration for four …

The analogous symmetry and dimensions in the tetrahedral and octahedral sheets allow the sharing of oxygen atoms between the sheets. In the case of the `three-layer minerals' or smectite clay minerals, one alumina or magnesia sheet shares oxygen atoms with two silica sheets, one on each side. The combination of an octahedral sheet …
In Q1 2024, the Bentonite market in the APAC region displayed contrasting trends across China and India, primarily influenced by differing demand-supply dynamics and economic activities. In China, the prices of Sodium Bentonite experienced an upward movement, driven by a consistently high demand from the Petroleum and Drilling Fluids industry.

Cationic surfactants are strongly coagulating agents for clay mineral dispersions. The critical coagulation concentration of cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTMAC) is 0.09 mEql–1 for a 0.025% sodium montmorillonite dispersion and increases to 0.35 mEql–1 for a 0.5% dispersion. The very low concentrations are caused by the strong adsorption of the …

The first bentonite production, at $25 per ton, was in 1888 by William Taylor from a property near Rock Creek. From 1888 . through 1895, Taylor shipped 5,400 tons of bentonite from the quarry to buyers across the country. The price remained stable until 1896, when purchasers refused to pay more than $5 per ton.
