I have the bigger 9J and love it. It's not as versitile as a Bridgeport but is much stiffer and will probably do better work. It will take heavy cuts with a large tool and I have used a 1/16 carbide endmill with no problem.

Gorton made a mill that was bigger than the 9J. I've just seen pictures of them and they looked as big as a No. 4 or 5 vertical mill. The 9j's I had would fit under 8 foot ceiling. To the top of the motor I would guess 7'-2 to 7'-6 tall. You would have to cut a hole in the ceiling and rig up some kind of hoisting system to put the motor on or off.

That looks like a standard Gorton 9J mill. Looks like all the feeds are manual including quill down feed. The 9J is a bull of a machine with uncommon accuracy, precision, rigidity, and quality. You can take stupid big cuts and it'll take it all day but the quality is so good you can use it the rest of the week as a jig borer.
